Welcome

The department offers three undergraduate degrees: a BS in Environmental Horticulture, a BS in Plant Biology, and for those who have broader interests and perhaps would like to pursue a second major or minors in various fields such as English, International Affairs, Art, Philosophy of Science or History, the BA in Plant Biology provides that flexibility. The department also offers graduate programs at the Master’s and Doctoral levels.

Our faculty are recognized nationally and internationally for excellence in a broad array of specialties and train students across the broad spectrum of the biology of plants including areas such as field botany, freshwater and marine botany, greenhouses and landscaping, plant breeding and genetics, sustainable agriculture, as well as focusing on physiological, cellular and molecular levels.

The many opportunities for hands-on learning in labs, greenhouses, and the field make learning very exciting and rewarding. Many of our students are involved in undergraduate research and/or get real-world experience through internships.
