Prospective Undergraduates

Bachelor of Science in Plant Biology is for students intending to seek employment in agricultural, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industries, to work in government agencies, environmental groups, and consulting firms, to teach secondary education, or to undertake graduate studies in preparation for advanced research and teaching positions.

Bachelor of Science in Environmental Horticulture offers a flexible curriculum for students interested in; managing farms, sustainable agriculture, greenhouses, golf courses, and nurseries, in teaching, in practicing journalism, in working in sales or brokerage aspects of wholesale and retail marketing, and in finding employment in food- and feed-processing firms.

Bachelor of Arts in Plant Biology students must complete a minimum of 37 semester credits in the major. The curriculum provides a broad background in the liberal arts and plant biology. Students may enter this program as freshmen or transfer into it from other liberal arts or science programs. This program is of particular interest to students who intend to utilize their plant biology training in public relations, teaching, or other careers in combination with a liberal arts background. The program allows for obtaining minors in other fields such as English, History, and Philosophy of science, International Affairs, Education, Art, and the like, to create an interdisciplinary program, or to pursue a double major.

 

The Plant Biology Department also offers minors in Plant Biology and Environmental Horticulture.
